Marcelo Benini
Marcelo is a journalist and writer. Between 1999 and 2021, he edited El Barrio, a free monthly newspaper that was declared to be of Cultural Interest by the City of Buenos Aires.
Together with Pedro Fermanelli, he co-authored La Final Bastarda, an investigation into refereeing irregularities during the decisive match of the 2009 Argentine league season between Vélez and Huracán. Published in 2019, the book is available to download free of charge (https://collectednotes.com/pfermanelli/que-es-la-final-bastarda).
Over the past five years, he has specialised in tracking down lost football grounds. After exhaustive research in digital repositories, newspaper archives and historical maps, he located the exact sites of Highfield, one of the grounds used in the first organised football championship in Argentina in 1891, and the playing field used by Alumni between 1898 and 1900.
