Steve Sharman
Steve is a football writer and academic psychologist based in Essex and Loughborough. His writing explores psychological, cultural, political, and historical influences on our beautiful game.
In his academic career, he has a PhD in Psychology from the University of Cambridge, making this more successful than his football career which peaked when representing Sussex Schools throughout his teenage years, trials for England Schoolboys, stints at several league clubs, and once marking Shaun Wright-Phillips out of a game. He also once headed a ball out the ground - his favourite claim to fame.
Steve writes regularly for Hopper's Guide, and has also written for publications and websites such as Glory, Terrace Edition, The Offside Rule, Outside Write, Football Weekends, Where's The Bar?, and Tiro Football. Through his day job, he has published more than 50 academic papers, and authored a number of book chapters.
Although his football heart will always belong to Derby County, he watches a lot of non-league football, and loves Italian football. However, as long as there is a ball, two sets of goalposts and a decent cheeseburger, he's generally a happy man.
